About Judy Denney RYT
Judy Denney RYT began her yoga career in 1973. She holds a degree in physical education, with an emphasis in dance and exercise physiology. Yoga became her passion, helping her with a chronic sciatic issue. Judy has been teaching yoga since 1976 and has since 1996 owned her own yoga studio. She is a registered yoga teacher through Yoga
Alliance and often attends national yoga conventions and workshops to study with fellow yoga teachers which include Eric Schiffman, Angela Farmer, Victor Van Kooten, Judith Lasater, Rodney Yee and many more. "Eric, Angela and Victor have influenced my yoga practice over the last seven years. They have reconfirmed through their classes and workshops what I was feeling, that yoga needs to be taught with the focus of an inner awareness. As we move into each pose or asana, we need to feel it, become aware of where it is resisting and where it is responding and then, focus on those areas. Seeing people beam as they are in a pose is why I've continued to teach for so many years. I've passed the passion on. That is what teaching is about".
Using The Internet To Teach
I've been teaching yoga where I live for over 23 years. Many of my students have been studying with me for almost the entire time. I've recently decided to move to another state and my students wanted me to make a DVD. I didn't want to do that. However I feel that using the technology of the streaming video which I can change from time to time and create mini classes and lessons is a better option for my students and it is exciting to me. I feel that I can stay connected to people as they respond to me via email. In my current classes I ask around the room "What do you need today, and then after a warm up, we take off with poses that will benefit the class. By creating video's for on line viewing, people will have lots of classes to choose from, not just one DVD. This is also a way for me to introduce people from all over to my style of yoga. Many people can't fit a yoga class into their lives on a weekly basis, many don't feel comfortable in a class. Let's be clear here about classes, at some point you need a teacher to help you with your poses. On line yoga is a tool for you to use in support to a yoga class. I hope you will use it, enjoy it. I know that you will benefit from it.
My Goals For You As A Student
I teach three things in a class; breath, body awareness, and relaxing into each pose. If you can get those three concepts then you can go anywhere and feel really comfortable in any class. You'll also know which class feels right for you. We all hold stress in places we are unaware of. I hope to help you find those places, and with your breath, body awareness and the pose, you'll begin to let go. Does that feel good? OH Yeah!
How To Use This Site
We've put together several classes, all are streaming video's, nothing to download. Initially there are two complete beginning classes, one complete intermediate class and a therapeutic class. We also have a "Design a class". In here you can select specific areas that you want to do, for example hips and back, shoulders and neck, or twists, etc.. They will load as you select them, hit the button and you will get a warm up followed by the selections you have made. We're very excited about this option. There will also be a yoga lesson. I teach not so you follow, but so that you learn. What are the poses for, how are they effecting your muscles, your organs, your body?
When you become a member you can log in any time and use the site in any way you wish. Watch the video's, work with them, do a short class, create your class, and all whenever you want. Classes will be added, they'll be archived, so they will all remain on the site and be available to you. Download the classes to an IPOD and take the class to a park or a quiet location. Learn to take time for you, just as you make and take time for others.
